2 months ago, I made the transition to using non-toxic skin care products and the results have been amazing. Beautycounter is something that always intrigued me, and I finally “took the plunge”. Honestly, I’m not looking back any time soon. I shared with y’all the night I used it for the first time, and so many DM’s came in asking me to give an update. I think to be fair to all of you, I need to use it for a while before I could give it a good or bad review! Although I’m overall pleased let me remind you that I nothing can replace a good diet, plenty of water and sleep. Those are the foundations for beautiful skin. It truly begins on the inside (less dairy, Mary. I repeat, less dairy). FAST FORWARD 8 MONTHS – I’m now a Beautycounter Consultant, believing in the line now more than ever.
I know my ability (or lack-there-of) to stick to a skincare routine, especially at the end of a long day, or the beginning of the day following a restless night (Yes, Lottie comes into our room more nights than not. The struggle is REAL, and we’re still navigating those waters, but back to the topic). Because of this I started small and ordered products that wouldn’t be overwhelming to work into my routine. This included Basic cleansers (one cream, one exfoliant) a serum at night only, and a moisturizer. At night, I use their nourishing night cream, and in the day time I use their Dew Skin Tinted Moisturizer, which is a tinted moisturizer. It is great with or without makeup, which I really like! My tone appears to be even, and my skin looks dewy. I think the product I’m most happy with is the Counter+ Overnight Resurfacing Peel. It was described to me as being “botox” in a bottle. Although day to day differences haven’t been so obvious, the overall improvement in my skin is great. The time in between my Botox treatments is longer (I received my last treatment in July and don’t feel like I need another yet) and I really believe it is due to using this product in the interim.
I feel like my routine has been easy to stick to, and I feel good knowing that what I’m putting on my face isn’t harmful. As I’ve gotten older, detoxing is such an important part of what I do. I feel like we’re constantly faced with free radicals, most of which we don’t even see, and the more I can flush them out of my system or prevent them from entering, the better! Beautycounter is a trusted brand, and I’m thankful Jenny Beth guided me in what to use. I’ll also link some other non-toxic beauty products that I feel are effective and affordable. Sephora and Ulta both make it easy to find these products by placing a green leaf or label by them on the website.
Aside from skincare, another method I have introduced into my beauty routine is we recently purchased an infrared sauna by Sunlighten. Although this is also a great tool for heath and wellness, I am including it in this post because I’ve seen such an improvement in my skin. The company professes that “infrared saunas are clinically proven to reach deeper levels into your skin, effectively removing toxins such as heavy metals. Solocarbon technology heats your body to the core, pulling out toxins that can clog your pores and lead to a host of health issues beyond just within your skin.” Furthermore, Sunlighten explains in “a study done in 2006, doctors looked at the impact of infrared on collagen and elastin in our skin, two of the most important ingredients to healthy skin. They found that both collagen and elastin increased after exposure to infrared, and all patients included in the study reported enhanced skin texture, less roughness, and improvement in color.” If you are looking for holistic ways to detox that also greatly improve your skin – from head to toe – I highly recommend considering an infrared sauna for your home. If you’re in a more metropolitan area, sweat studios are becoming very popular, and you can pay to sweat as often as you like!
This is the beginning of a health journey I plan to continue; I’ve loved diving into clean beauty, and am excited about this week. Cheers to happy, healthy skin and beauty from the inside out!
